In March, 2010, the FX Network launched the season premiere of “Justified.” This show is an over-the-top, modern-day crime drama set in Harlan, Kentucky. The story follows Raylan Givens, a U.S. Marshall sent to work in his own hometown where he enforces his own brand of justice. Acclaimed actor, Timothy Olyphant, plays Givens. Additionally, Nick Searcy, Joelle Carter and Walton Goggins impress in supporting roles.
Harlan’s on-screen incarnation is a lawless and violent town overrun by violence and corruption. Harlan Countians generally accept Justified as an entertaining work of fiction although Justified is an embellishment.
Justified is not filmed in Harlan but rather in Kittanning, Pennsylvania. However, previews for the show have featured short, interwoven clips the crew gathered in Harlan before the pilot aired.
Additionally, a spin off to the show has been in the works. According to wikipedia, “Justified: City Primeval is an upcoming American Western crime drama television miniseries developed by showrunners Dave Andron and Michael Dinner. The series continues the story from Justified taking inspiration from the Elmore Leonard novel City Primeval: High Noon in Detroit. Timothy Olyphant returns to star as Deputy U.S. Marshal Raylan Givens. Dinner will also direct. The series premiered on June 1, 2023, at the 12th ATX Television Festival, and it is set to premiere on FX on July 18, 2023.”
