An isolated island in a mountain lake? Sounds like perfect Big Foot habitat.
Cranks Creek Lake, nestled in the rugged terrain of Harlan County, was formed in 1963 and spans 219 acres. The lake is surrounded by dense forests and remote landscapes that make it a haven for wildlife. At the center of the lake lies Bigfoot Island, a secluded landmass accessible only by boat. This island is heavily forested, with thick underbrush and little to no human presence, making it an ideal location for something—or someone—looking to remain hidden. With its isolation, abundant water sources, and rich animal life, Bigfoot Island provides a perfect environment for a creature like Bigfoot to thrive away from human interference.

Cryptozoology and Expedition Bigfoot History
In early June 2020, the Expedition Bigfoot team visited Harlan County to explore the local lore and investigate reports of Bigfoot sightings. Their mission was to document credible encounters and interview locals who had firsthand experiences with the mysterious creature. The show’s producers connected with Tony Felosi, a Harlan County investigator with extensive knowledge of the area and its legends, and Darla Jackson, who helped facilitate the project. Despite challenges with maintaining confidentiality during production, the team managed to capture compelling stories from individuals like Tracy Turner, a local pastor and former state police employee, whose encounter added credibility to the investigation. This exploration further cemented Harlan County’s reputation as a hotspot for cryptid activity and drew national attention to the region.
Bigfoot Island and Local Sightings
Dozens of Harlan County residents have reported hearing strange cries and howls echoing across Cranks Creek Lake, often originating from the direction of Bigfoot Island. The island’s remote nature and dense vegetation make it difficult to access, adding to its mystery and allure. Locals believe that this isolated island could be the perfect hiding spot for the elusive Bigfoot, with its untamed wilderness serving as a barrier between the creature and human encroachment. While no definitive evidence has been captured on Bigfoot Island itself, the frequent and consistent reports from those living nearby keep the legend alive and well in Harlan County.
