Welcome to Harlan County, where there’s always something exciting going on! Whether you’re here for our biggest party of the year at the Poke Sallet Festival or looking to get a little dirty at thrilling off-road events like the Southern Shine Crawl or the Fall Crawl, we’ve got you covered. Harlan County is a place of celebration, adventure, and unforgettable memories.

We like to think we’re on top of all the fun stuff happening around here, but now and then, a cool event might sneak by us. Maybe we missed it in our social feeds, or it’s a new thing we haven’t heard about yet. Whatever the reason, we don’t want to miss out, and neither do you! Got an event you’re excited about? Shoot us an email at harlantourism@gmail.com or send us a message on our facebook page at Visit Harlan County. As long as it meets our parameters, we’ll happily add it to our calendar. We’re all about community and tourism events that bring people together.

So, let’s make every day a reason to celebrate in Harlan County. Share your event, and let’s fill our calendar with fun for everyone!

Gingerbread House Competition

December 7 @ 10:00 am - 12:00 pm

Build something delicious this Christmas and win cash prizes! 1st place will receive $250, 2nd place $150, and 3rd place $100. Gingerbread houses may be submitted during normal business hours beginning on Monday December 2nd at noon. Submissions will close on Saturday December 7th at noon. While we work hard to protect the houses, Harlan Tourism cannot be responsible for any damage or mishaps once the house has been submitted. Here are a few helpful guidelines…

-Contestants are responsible for setting up their own display. Displays should not rely on the Harlan Center for electricity or other elements crucial to design.

-Any contestant who deliberately damages another contestant’s house will be disqualified.

-Gingerbread Houses may be homemade or pre-made kits.

-All entries must be constructed primarily of edible ingredients. Non edible features such as lights, cake board or base, etc. are permitted but should not be the main structural components. In addition, glues or non edible adhesives are NOT permitted.

  • -Houses should be picked up on Saturday December 7th between 3 p.m. and 5 p.m. unless prior arrangements have been made.
