If you haven’t visited Harlan County since last Labor Day, you’ll find new businesses and features that have come to our community in the past year! Here are a few you may want to check out…
-The Harlan County Beer Company- Enjoy Harlan County’s first (legal) brew across from the Harlan County Courthouse in downtown Harlan. In addition to their beer and bar options, you’ll also find a menu full of local favorites and rotating specials. Follow their social media for announcements about live music, trivia nights, outdoor art classes, and other special events.
-Sasquatchi Hibachi- While sasquatches may or may not be lurking in the wilderness of Harlan County, they’re alive and well at this sasquatch themed Japanese restaurant on Main Street in downtown Cumberland. Choose your protein, filler, and veggies for a personalized experience that is sure to be a crowd pleaser for everyone!
-Leonz House of Steak & Subs- Following their success in Pineville, Kentucky, Leonz decided to branch out with a second location in Evarts! This weekend spot is serving up everything from ribeye steaks to catfish dinners. Their location in the heart of Evarts, an ATV friendly city, means you can ride your off-road vehicle off of the Black Mountain Off-Road Adventure Area and straight to the doors of Leonz for a delicious meal before heading back to the mountains!
-Harlan Dog Park- Harlan is a favorite destination for humans and dogs alike! In fall of 2022, dogs had their day when Harlan opened a downtown Dog Park! With a reliable fence, dogs can run off leash and play. You’ll find the dog park on Walnut Street just off of North Main St at the Flood Wall in downtown Harlan!
-Locked in Appalachia- Summer of 2023 brought the opening of downtown Harlan’s escape room! Gather your team and head to Central St. You’ll be challenged by puzzles, clues, and the clock as you race to escape within an hour. With two rooms available, you can double your fun by taking on both rooms!
-The Harlan Mural- 2nd St in Downtown Harlan got a facelift with the addition of a mural on the west side of Kentucky Family Dentistry’s building. The mural depicts a mountain scene with Harlan Kentucky on proud display. It’s a great spot to grab a quick photo for your Instagram as you capture your visit to Harlan!
-Southern Ruckus- This new boutique on 2nd St in Downtown Harlan offers women’s clothing including plus sizes, bags, hats, accessories, and footwear! With fresh items hitting the shelves with each season, you can follow fashion year round in one of Harlan’s newest shops!
-Raven Rock Coffee, Tea, & Curiosities- Main St in Downtown Cumberland recently welcomed the addition of Raven Rock Coffee, Tea, & Curiosities! Named for the famous rock formation in nearby Kingdom Come State Park, the shop offers custom drinks as well as home cooking, cafe menu, and baked goods. While you’re there, browse the expertly curated shop where you’ll find gift items celebrating the mystical and mysterious!
