Downtown Harlan’s Vintage Fall Festival returns for its second year of fall activities for the whole family. You’ll find all the fun on First Street on October 21st beginning at 1 p.m. Here’s some highlights you won’t want to miss!
Live Performances– The day kicks off with toe tapping bluegrass music from The Creekers. Sing along with covers of some of your favorite songs with Laci Deaton & Co. We switch from music to dance at 3 p.m. with performances by the Rosspoint Little Dancers and the Dancing Dragons. Shiloh Turner brings a mix of neotraditional country and folk to the stage at 4 p.m. Singer songwriter Chelsea Nolan and her guitar will usher in the night. The Local Honeys join skilled songwriting and traditional Appalachian sounds to make real deal, honest-to-God Kentucky music. Find a seat on a bale or straw or bring your own chair and enjoy a day full of live performances!
–Shop– New and familiar favorite vendors alike will line 1st Street with everything from tasty treats to seasonal decor. Browse handmade and unique items as you enjoy everything the festival has to offer.
–Fun & Games– Try your hand at a 9 hole mini-golf course. Take a hayride. Browse a reptile tent. Win big at the cakewalk. Play carnival games. You’ll find activities for your entire family to keep you busy all day. These experiences will cost to participate with several of the activities serving as fundraisers for deserving local non-profits!
–Raven’s Egg Hunt– If you enjoy the fun of hunting for hidden pastel eggs each spring, try it in the fall with the black eggs of a raven! Meet at the gazebo at 5:45 for the raven egg hunt sponsored by Bloody Harlan Tours.
–Ghost Tour– Here’s your chance to see downtown Harlan through the eyes of residents who left this world but never left their hometown. Hear stories of the paranormal and true crime by the storytellers and paranormal investigators at Bloody Harlan Tours. The tour leaves from the gazebo at 6 p.m. and will end back at the courthouse for a memorable encounter with one of Harlan County’s most famous ghosts.
–Costume Contest– Use your imagination to come up with a creepy, comical, or creative costume. You could win $100! There are four divisions with each winner taking home a $100 prize. The contest begins at 6 p.m. at the gazebo. Come a few minutes early so you can register. This is sponsored by the Harlan Rotary Club!
–Thriller!– Join the Harlan County High School Dance Team and the Harlan County Arts Council for this live performance of the undead! Let the dance team lead you step by step through a quick instruction of the famous Thriller dance and then perform it together! The fun starts at 6:30. All ages and abilities are welcome to participate!
-Spooky Art- Enjoy art with a spooky twist inside of the Harlan County Courthouse. Everyone is welcome to visit. If you’d like to add your art to the collection, contact Bloody Harlan Tours! This display will be open throughout the event.
–Pumpkin Pitch Softball Tournament– Step away from 1st Street and visit Huff Park to cheer on the teams vying for the title of Pumpkin Pitch Softball Champion! These adult co-ed games take off at 10 a.m. and will play until a winner is crowned.
